Trump is currently leading in the polls in battleground states: AZ, NV, MI, NC, GA.  Trump and Biden are currently tied in WI and PA.  See attached charts for each state.

Trump currently has a slight 1.6% lead against Biden in the national polls as of 2/20/2024. 

At this same time in the last election Biden had a 4.8% lead over Trump in these same polls.

Presidential approval ratings vary a LOT based on how the country views each president’s performance during their term.  Approval ratings plummet when the country experiences “shocks” like Watergate under Richard Nixon, inflation under Jimmy Carter, Monica Lewinski scandal under Bill Clinton, the Iraq War under George W Bush, and COVID under Donald Trump. Biden’s approval rating plummeted after the botched U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021.  He started with a 53% Approval 30% Disapproval and dropped to a 41% Approval and 52% Disapproval one year later.  He is currently at a 39% Approval and 56% Disapproval. 

Both Trump and Biden have poor approval ratings.  Trumps approval rating has been trending up since June 2023.  Biden’s approval rating has been trending down since March 2023.
